Accessing protected collections

More information about accessing protected collections

All of the collections are managed and hosted by 3rd party publishers. Some collections are publically available but others are protected by a form of protection called Shibboleth or Athens which means that you will need a username and password to access them. In most cases you will have an institutional username and password that your University or College has given you to access online resources such as library databases and subscriptions. If your institution has subscribed to this collection your username and password should provide access.

After you have logged into a collection, if you decide to look at other protected collections, you may find that you are asked to re-enter your institution name and possibly your username and password but we have tried to minimise this as much as possible for you.

Having difficulties accessing a collection?

If you know your username and password but are still having difficulties accessing the collection, it is possible that your institution has not subscribed to this particular resource, or you need to set-up a personal account on the collection website. We recommend that you contact your usual IT or library services helpdesk for further support.

Don’t know your username or password?

If you are unsure about your username and password we recommend that you contact your usual IT or library services helpdesk for support.
