A unique educational resource designed to bring Newton’s science to life.
Sir Isaac Newton’s reputation and achievements in the fields of optics, physics and theoretical astronomy are regarded as among some of the greatest and most important scientific endeavours in history.
This collection seeks to shed further light on the breadth and depth of Newton’s work and theories by creating a group of ‘learning objects’ based around themes. It includes resources such as video and audio interviews with Newtonian experts, alongside explanatory secondary material and Newton’s actual transcripts.
Students, researchers and teachers of Science, Mathematics and History, among other subjects, can download original transcripts and view Newtonian experiments.
The site offers ‘Resources for Teachers', where information that is currently available through the archive is further explained.
Dr Jonathan Hare demonstrates Newton’s experiments with the centre of gravity and motion, as well as Professor Rob Iliffe’s interview regarding the essentially religious nature of 18th century scientists.
