Rare examples of art, literature and the moving image.
Much of the University of Exeter’s archive of collections is fragile, unique and not available to scrutinise in its original format. Digitised access to these collections enables close analysis of many fascinating examples of popular Victorian culture – such as magic lantern show slides, pictures from the Great Exhibition and a wide range of periodicals and manuscripts.
The history of film, from its conception to the present day, is also represented along with rare 19th century books and maps and a specialist collection covering the history of the Arabian region from the 18th century onwards.
This collection holds a variety of different resources of interest to those specifically studying Victorian social history, the development of cinema or the history of the Middle East, as well as anyone with a general interest in the broad subject categories of the arts, media, literature and history.
The collections are categorised, summarised and are fully searchable.
